Merhaba. Biraz ara verdim, soluklandım geldim. Birkaç anıma göz atıp seçim yapmak üzere oturdum. Kararımı Amsterdam’dan yana kullanıyorum. Bugün, birkaç günde kanımca dolu dolu geçirdiğim güzel anılardan bahsedeceğim. Başlayalım.
Amsterdam'a hazırlıklar...

Amsterdam’a indiğimizde beni hayli büyük bir havalimanı
karşıladı. Uçaktan inişimden otobüslere ulaşmama kadar on beş dakika civarı
her yanı sinir bozucu vaziyette kalabalık.
şoföre, bir şey danışmamla, native-like*
Oda, kutu gibiydi, her şey milimetrik hesaplanmıştı.
muhteşem parkına gittim; Vondelpark’a. Akşamdan kalan hava aynen devam
ediyordu.
Edirne’ye, ''I ❤…’’şeklindeki
kendimi dinledim. Leidseplein’a doğru yola çıktım…
Amsterdam yazımın ilk bölümü burada bitti. Leidseplein

You can read this article in twelve minutes...
Hi you all. I gave a break and I'm here again. I sat at
the computer to decide what to write today, and I decided to write about
Amsterdam. Today, I'm gonna talk about the memories I lived to the fullest
during several days of Amsterdam trip. Let's begin.
Preparations for Amsterdam...
It is needed to make much more plans for Amsterdam
compared to spontaneous trips of Italy. When I think that I am an organized
person, I started to look for tickets from Rome to Amsterdam with pleasure.
Even if all of the low budget airlines were all over the Europe, it is
sometimes unable to find reasonable flights. I bought the ticket one month
earlier than the trip and it was 50 euros. Even if 50 euros ticket fee seemed a
bit much at first comparing my previous 10-15 euros-worth trips, it was okay to
travel from the southern Europe to the Northern Europe. I made lots of plans
till going there, I fit up with some of them, whereas I couldn' make some of my
plans. One of my most favourite ways of transportation which is bus travel from
my town to Rome was about to begin around the small hours of flight day. My
flight was around the noon. The bus was directly going to the airport, and we
were about to reach the airport. But traffic jam was so high that it was as
equal as Istanbul traffic. I asked for driver's advice, he told me ''there is
no problem, we are catchin''. Hence, we caught the flight as restrained as the
driver. The other details following this continued routinely. I remember that
my seat was at the right side of the plane, and there were two other Turkish
students sitting next to me who were studying in Rome as exchange students. I
just remember those details about them.
First Impressions...
A quite big airport greeted me once I landed. It took
around fifteen minutes to reach the shuttle buses from the plane. Schiphol is a
quite huge airport, and it is also quite crowded. When I just remember the
condition of airport, I think about the news I saw on the web which exactly
said that ''The touristic advertisements of Amsterdam is stopped due to the
high rate of tourist coming to the city which has been doubled in around five
years. There is nothing to say instead of they are right to do it. Amsterdam also has been always a hectic city. However, Amsterdam is so beautiful that and this
city clears of those negative ideas from your mind so much that you become
interested in peace but nothing. Anyway, I threw myself a day of Amsterdam, and
I got in one of the shuttle buses just across the airport. The transportation
network of the city is priceless! The sincere and blonde woman driver of the
bus replied my question frankly with the native-like English. Then I learned
that Netherlands is one of the lead countries of Europe in which English is
spoken one of the best. Apart from mentioning to learn a foreign language, they
even solved the accent and fluency problems occur in English language speakers
in other countries of Europe.
I reached the city centre afternoon, and I hit the road towards to the hostel
which I reserved months ago. Speaking of hostel, since the reasons which were
is that every single hostel in the most touristic spots of the city centre were
so pricey, and wanting to stay a little away from the city centre, I preferred
to stay at Jordaan region of the city. After all those, I told myself that
''luckily I am staying there...'' I am gonna talk about the details of the
region on my next article of Amsterdam. The sky was already cloud over when I
reached the hostel. Hostel was at the right of the street which was just next
to one of the thousands canals of the city. I went inside, and a receptionist
welcomed me warmly. While she was making preparations for my stay, a
description on the reception desk attracted my interest. It was exactly written
on the description that ''the population of the city is around 800,000 while
the bicycle population is 880,000. I came across with this fact practically
while I was staying at this city. Yet, if you do not watch out bicycles in
Amsterdam, it is quite possible to get a crash in this city. Bicycle drivers
are mostly locals and they are so professional in this that they swooshes in
front of you until you check the right and left sides, and if you make any kind
of mistakes at that moment, they may act so aggressively. Amsterdam is also not
like Venice. You cannot take your vehicles into the city centre in Venice,
whereas you can take your vehicles everywhere including the smallest streets of
Amsterdam. It reveals that the dense populations of bicycles are added into the
vehicle and tourist traffic in the city which causes the dissatisfaction of the
city locals as usual.
I went up the four-dorm room. There was already a
backpacker sleeping. He became bad-tempered when I left the lights on for a
while. The room was boxy. There were two bunk beds across each other and there
were also a sink just left side of those bunk beds which I did not come across
in any other hostels at all. I left all my belongings in the room and I went
outside in order to explore the close places and to eat. The city welcomed me with
a downpour. It was just like the reverse seasons. I experienced the harsh
winter in the middle of spring in that night. This changeable climate continued
on the following days of my stay. I soaked until I reached Dam square. I threw
myself into the Burger place which was one of the quickest and the cheapest
ways of eating back then. I warmed my body and I was full. Then, I started to
walk towards to hostel in order to wake up fresh on the next day which will be
quite long for me.
Museumplein |
Jordaan, Vondelpark & Museumplein...
I started the next day by exploring the close areas. The
narrow streets and the small canals of the city were showing themselves
generously in the Jordaan region. The big and tiny thousands of canals of
Amsterdam have the unique characters of their own. They are both similar and
the different at the same time. Some of the locals, who can be regarded as
bohemians for me, are living on the canal houses, and those canal houses are
quite much in the city. Those houses are like studio apartments, they have the
small balconies which are open to small rooms. Since Amsterdam is below sea
level, the city rises above the canals. After working thousands of years, all
the loıcals of the city at that time made a masterpiece by constructing the
city with the bridges and the pile-supported. As the proverb also says that ''God
created the world, but the Dutch created Netherlands''.
I just walked like a wanderer around the streets of
Amsterdam. After an hour later, I went to Vondelpark which all the parks in any
city are one of the main sightseeing spots for me to see. The weather was just
like the yesterday night, and I was about to tell myself ''The weather is so
hot but there are dark clouds on the sky'', and it started to drizzle.
Amsterdam recalls me somewhere with this character; ''Blacksea region of
Turkey''. Vondelpark is a pretty beautiful and huge park which consists of big
lakes and tall trees. I saw the twin of the ''IAmsterdam'' sign at Vondelpark,
which is already holding in the Museumplein, it became a part of the popular
culture in Turkey and all over the world after Dutch people initiated it in the
Netherlands. This sign became a symbol both in Turkey and in the Europe, and I
took a photo there. I left the park after spending around thirty minutes due to
the reasons that is enough to see this kind of spots in big cities spending at
least one day-long and I also thought of coming back later there.
Vondelpark |
I hit the road
towards Museumplein. As the name suggests, this area is dense with the lots of
museums and there are kilometers-long queues in that area. I saw a long queue
and I followed it and I found the entrance of Van Gogh Museum. I thought it is
worth to see inside but then I stopped myself. Yet, if I go inside, maybe I
will go outside around my departure from the city. I continued and I saw the
Rembrandt Museum which was quite majestic with her height and which were a pool
ornamented with tulips just in front of the museum. This museum was also so
crowded. For a moment I tried to join the queue but then my inner voice told me
that ''Do not wait, go on, there are lots of places to see.'' I must express
that there were an attractive crowded area in front of ''IAmsterdam'' sign
instead of museum queue. I took a photo of the sign. Then, I started to take
the photos of the majestic Rembrandt Museum. There were arches at the entrance
of the building and when you pass thrugh those arches you will reach the back
side of the museum. I went inside those arches and I took the photos of the
arches from the back side. Then, I started to walk going away from there.
The memories left behind from the first day...
The weather was clear, and I started to walk to the
Vondelpark again. I don't know what do you think but spending my time in those
kind of parks which are all green is one of the main activities of mine. I
walked around the park for a while, but it was not possible to see the all of
the park. So, I went outside of the park after a while, and I walked. During my
visit on Amsterdam, I also realized some similarities between British and Dutch
cultures some of which are to have brick buildings, structures of the streets,
physical appearances of the Dutch people and the climate of course. I have
taken some photos while walking next to canals. I sat on a bench and I thought.
I listened the sound of silence, I listened myself. Then, I hit the road towards Leidseplein...
The first part of my Amsterdam article is over. I will be
around here with the second part of the article in which I will talk about
Leidseplein Area, Centraal Station, Jordaan Area and so on.
Regards,
Can.
