Başlangıç... | The Beginning...

Bu yazıyı 11 dakikada okuyabilirsiniz...

Merhaba. Gezilerden kalan anıları gözümün önüne getiriyorum, çektiğim fotoğrafları inceleyip yazmaya değer anekdotlar arıyorum. Karar verince, içimden ''yaz, yaz, yazsana, ne duruyorsun?'' gibi dürtükleyen iç seslere yenilerek işe atılıyorum.
Yazıların kronolojik sırayla devam etmediğini fark etmişsinizdir. Fakat her yazıda, gezilerimin hangi tarihlerde gerçekleştiğini yazmaya özen gösteriyorum.

İstanbul'a vardım. Uçağa geçtik, her şey hazırdı.

Kişi başı on beş euro istediğini işitince tepki vermedim zira o an için gidilecek olan noktaya pürdikkat odaklanmıştım.

You can read this article in seventeen minutes...

It's beginning...

Hi again. I have been visualizing the memories that I have had, and I have been searching for anecdotes that are worth to write while checking the photos I took. When I decide to write, I am always defeated by the inner voices such as ''write, write, just write man, what are you waiting for?'', and I start for it.
As you may realize, the articles are not in chronological order. But, I always take care of the exact dates of the articles so that those can be clear. And now, I am going back to the first of all. I am revealing the travel and its after effects which have happened like ''I like adventure and it seems that adventures know it and they find me'...

I started the process with the desire of going Europe as an exchange student. When intending to coping with Language exams and Gpa calculations, I ranked among the record number of students who wanna be an exchange student. Everyone had three options to choose according to their average points. Since the number of quotas for each university wasn't the same amount, the quotas for the universities have decreased towards to the end. So, many students had to get their second or even third options. So, it happened like that. Italy got me, now I am saying myself that ''happily, I got Italy.'' Let's skip a little bit, because there are also some other things to specify...

Long preparations, lots of researches about the university and the town, the boring details of the visa process caught me so heavily. However, it was time to go. It was a sunny day of the early September. We hit the road with a big luggage and a backpacker which have been a companion of mine since then. First I flied Istanbul, then I was gonna fly to Rome around midday. I reached Istanbul. We met like a crowded Turkish crew of students. When everyone was there, we ate something. It was time, the travel for which I have been waiting for so long was beginning... We got the plane, everything was ready. I don't know any time that I was so excited like that, I remember as it was yesterday and that feeling is so warm even today. There was a great excitement, curiosity and a little concern in my body that was waiting for a new beginning. It was so powerful excitement that I had eyes only for the scenarios which have been twriling in my mind and the thoughts related to future. It was something such as ''it cannot be described but only experienced.''

Thrilling moments in Rome and in Fabriano...

We landed after two and a half hours travel, and I put the clock back. We were facing something like a saying expresses ''one person works for one job for one minute, how many minutes does it take to do the same job by eight people?'' After discussing about the travel from airport to the train station, we decided to go to Termini station via a VIP taxi. We didn't even see the shuttles. I was watching the driver while he was putting the tonnes of luggages into the baggage of the van. I didn't overreact when he requested fifteen euros per each person. This is because I totally focused on the destination I was about to travel. I wasn't in the mood of thinking about the 120 euros he got at just one way travel. However, I am always aware of those calculations and I apply them meticulously. It revealed that I had my head in the clouds at that time. Anyway, we reached to Termini station with the hunk and fifty year-old driver, who was sincere to us because he got good clients. We got the station but the true events has pursued us. Back then and later, I always memorialize those moments laughing loudly. Because it wasn't possible to not to have fun about it.

Termini station impressed me with its shops and the people so much that I felt as if I wasn't at the deary city of the Western civilization and at the capital of Roman Empire but I felt as if I was at a capital of some other country which already missed the train of civilization. I am saying like that because the condition of the station was quite pathetic when I last saw it. It is for sure that some of the places in the station was renovated but when I look carefully, Termini was just like an old man who carries all the years' exhaustion with facial wrinkles, and the light has gone out of his eyes. Besides, the size of the station was spectacular. I don't remember anyt other tren stations this big. Imagine that there are around forty platform next to each other, and because each platform lasts lots of kilometres, tens of trains could be used simultaneously. It was apparent that there were some people who are strangers in the stations just like us, and they were trying to explain something in their own language while Italians were looking at them desperately. At the same time, lots of luggages and backpackers were patroling around the station. We came into line to get our tickets, and after a while we got the tickets. The thing that I am still quite surprised was that the departure time of the train was 22:10 and the platform was 1EST. Since there is still time for departure, even by not thinking about a seat to sit in this hell crowded station, we found a corner close to the platform, we sat and we started to wait...

It was 10:10 PM. We went towards the first platform. But there was no train on the huge platform. I checked, I was at first platform, ours was 1EST as well. Time was flying, and because we didn't think that train was late this much, we asked this problem. Then we realized that we were so wrong about the location. The platform was the 1st one, but as I mentioned you above that lots of the trains could be used at the same time, the closest platform to the station was called 1A, next one was 1B, blabla... So, the platform that we have been kicking our heels was 1A. The train that we normally should use was already going away from us. We bought new tickets, and we started to wait again. It was like a disappointment. Then waiting time was over, and because of the reason that I cannot remember right now, we caught that train by running. When I was just sprinting, there was a luggage on my one hand, and one another on my other hand, and there was a huge backpacker on my back. Fortunately, we caught that one, and we didn't finf ourselves in another unluckiness. The train had to have a transfer route in Fabriano which meant that we had to drop off from the train in Fabriano and we had to wait for another one to reach our final destination. We reached Fabriano on late night, and we, as usual, started to wait for the other train. It was one o'clock on the night, a town that you don't know anything at all, scenes that the town and the station seemed abandoned... There is nothing to do instead of waiting for the next train in the abandoned train of abandoned city. Sometime, we went outside of the station in order to find something to eat. Useless... The condition of the streets was exactly like it was all hell broke loose, and we didn't know that. We came back to the station desperately. I didn't feel myself  sleepy, and I was looking for something to stall myself. I took my camera, and started yto take some photos around the station. There were some kiosk machines to get tickets and some snacks in the station. Besides, there was a room whose door was open, it was just across the train and ten steps away from it. I went inside curiously, it was a small chapel. There were some seats on the left and on the right, there was a small lectern across of those seats and there was a small statue of Jesus on the wall. It didn't last long to stall myself because it was limited. I tried to sleep by going inside of the train which looked like a train from the horror movies. Apart from trembling because of the cold, I barely slept because of the excitement I have had in my mind and body. So, I woke up lightheadedly. It was time to leave that place, and I started my long journey by staying all the night there...

An Impressing Encountering...

We reached the town after a couple of hours travel. As I researched before, the residence that I am goona stay was just two minutes away from the station by walking. I felt myself happy about this, because I was intending to go out to discover the town after resting a little bit and leaving my belongings in the room. When we went outside of the station, I heard of ''Thank Goodness'' sayings. After going out of the station, we turn right and go up a little, then turn right and go down the street, and the residence was just on the right side of the street. But I only had  a Turkish phone, so there was no way to reach the guy who is in charge of the residence who I mentioned in my Bologna post earlier. There was no solution of waiting, and it was Sunday. When I asked this guy about the entrance into the residence on the weekend, he told me that you could surely do it. It was nonsense to wait for the man by telepathizing or praying. Thus, I saw an old lady who was going out of a house just across of the street, and I went across. I tried to communicate with the cute lady, but it was obvious that most of the middle aged people couldn't speak English at all in this kind of small towns of Italy. I was telling something, and she was trying to help sincerely. However, it seemed that this conversation would last like the people who are trying to make them understand just by yelling at others. Thankfully, a man, who could be a relative of the lady as I guess, went out of the house and tried to help me. I expressed the situation to him in detail, and I told him that I need to call somebody. He granted my request, and he called. He first talked Italian on the phone, and then I got the phone by briefly telling the events we had on the previous night and we told him that we are waiting just before the residence. I said thank you to the guys who helped me with this, then I again went across the street. We have waited for about thirty minutes. Then, he came there with a friend of him. On top of that his friend took our other five friends to their residence which was quite away from there.  I never forget these kind of good will of people in the difficult situations. My gratitude to their sacrifice is as fresh as today...

We went inside of the residence and we met some residents. We went downstairs in order to get the necessary information, rules and documents which are needed to be signed. After completing those procedures, I settled to my room which was the first room on the third floor of triplex residence. Finally, I met my one year-long nest. The room was wide with a balcony. It was a single room and the price was quite reasonable. Apart from all those events, there were something else which have been going wrong. The weakness and nausea on my whole body... Just as I entered the bathroom, I made it. It was a bit weird to meet this room just after entering. It is because I couldn't even wash my hands and my face. We went out of the room in order to buy some food from a supermarket which has been told us by the guy from the residence. Meanwhile, I was thinking like ''Anyway, it is not time to deal with any kind illnesses''. Afterwards, we started to walk towards city centre to eat breakfast. I remember that we went to a Trattoria* restaurant while I was thinking I had to eat something. Yet, I lost my appetite. I mainly have spent my day in my room, and I choked down a fine Margarita pizza at a Ristorante Pizzeria** which was at one of the greatest two squares of the town...

The Joy and The Emotional Feeling During The First Days...

Because of adapting the environment and acting slowly, we have had breakfast outside during the first days. I have been reaping the fruits of the process which begun nine months before and during which I have spent my time just as a horse which is galloping. I was thinking of the process which has completed as I aimed, and I was also thinking that a new voyage has been starting. Those feelings motivated me so much. Reaching the end of the target that I stay focused on and a new beginning by turning over a new leaf was strengthening my faith, and the adventure has been just beginning... Anyway, there was a cafe which was just around the corner on the way of the square and whose staff was quite sincere. Apart from many types of coffees, there were lots of snacks such as croissants, cakes and desserts... Both the attitudes of the staff and the products were amazing. Besides, I wasn't neglecting them and I was waving them whenever I has passed by the cafe during my stay in the town. Even if I forget to wave them, they were reminding themselves. There were just a couple of people who made me feel happy. I meant that if you just have one friend around you who made you feel happy, you can't even imagine their benefits to you. When I express them to you, it can be seen an ordinary situation, but while there are limited people around your surroundings who are always positive, and while there are lots of surly people around you, once you change it with a positive environment, it impressed you so effectively. Not to mention complaining, you even sometimes say that ''I wish they waved me once again''...

When I am writing, expressing and thinking all those, I feel like I am reading a flowing novel or I am watching an effective film...  I shared my memories which I don't want to evolve like a shelf which is so dusty that it is no longer remembered.
So long...
