Bir an durakladıktan
bulunur. İşte o evlerin balkonları ışıklarla süslenmiş, meydanın bir köşesine
de devasa bir çam ağacı dikilmişti. Bu meydana çıktığımda, o an aklımdan

This article is six-minute long...
Hi, I wrote my memories left behind from Salerno trip which I visited after
Napoli trip which has began in the small hours.
A Night of
Shudder and Compassion in Salerno...
When we reached the meeting spot, night was about to descend into the warm
city. Even if I do not remember much of it, the journey to Salerno has begun
without spending so much time. Although Salerno is not so far away from Naples,
my first impression about this city is that its character is completely
different from Naples. Because it illustrates that we are face to face with the
expensiveness of the city, along with the order and the attractiveness of the
streets. Again, the coach left us from his body somewhere near to the coast. We
were walking along a bazaar which seems like a kermess in a narrow street. Both
Naples and Salerno were starting a new season with a cutting cold in the night
by denying my word, which was “what a warm weather they both have.” While
walking in the bazaar, we came across a Santa who was taking several photos
with his fans. After hesitating a while, we also took a photo with Santa by
wearing special hats. Then, I retain I looked the photo and I laughed at myself
so hard. After walking away from the bazaar, we found ourselves in the heart of
a vibrant street. Although the orange colour of the lamppost, which combined
with the remains of wetness of the rain,
was wrapped the city up in a warm weather, even the warm breathe of the massive crowd
was not enough to heat up the estranged bodies. The street was so glittering
that both colourful Christmas ornaments, which were dangling from the buildings
that were situated two sides of the street and the thousands of lightings of
the stores made me feel like in a feast.
After the walking is done in the street, I remember myself walking along in
another quite narrow street. While we were looking up some souvenir shops in
our walking route, the road led us to a tiny square. Whenever I came across
those kind of small squares, all of which reminded me that they are
indispensable elements of Italian culture. Since Italians were just like taking
every opportunity to build squares in the cities. Those kind of small squares,
in which car traffic is forbidden, are mostly rectangular shape or square shape
and there are spectacular houses with shutters and luxury restaurants on the
ground floor of those buildings. Those houses’ balconies were adorned with the
lights, and there was a huge pine tree at the corner of the square. Things passing in my mind when I hit the square is still fresh which
is: “How come every single square seems identical while all of which seem quite
unique at the same time? And how come a human fall to watch by adoring those
squares again and again whenever s/he sees it at first time?” No wonder, I have
taken lots of photos there and I simply felt petrified at the heart of the
square. It is because it was quite sufficient for me to observe goings-on
issues along the square. At that moment, someone I saw at the square looked
familiar to me. When you remember something but you cannot quite place him/her
exactly, that’s what it is. I came closer to him and I just made eyes at him
but it was him who acted earlier. So to say, there were just two most
bewildered person on the earth. Cenk, who sit on the front row of mine in along
secondary school, was standing in front of me in Salerno and he was drinking
wine from a carton box bought from a supermarket. He told me that he was
studying in Naples. We talked long time and for a moment, he offered me to
share his wine. After that, the wine, which encounters my shivered body, got
together with the coziness of the conversation which led to an experience which
didn’t get enough of time. He was with a friend group. They seemed that they
threw themselves into the arms of the night with the purpose of getting some
fresh air. After chatting with his friends for a while, we left there. However,
the impact of the coincidence was still with me.
The Companion with whom I reunited at
the end of the night…
While I was turning back to the square, the end of the 24 hours of
one-piece journey was approaching. After walking a bit, we sit down a bench at
a park. Despite of the density of the
chaos whereabouts, the unique silence of the night was protecting herself from
it. We stayed for a little bit at the park, and then we started to walk
towards the meeting point. When I saw a crowd of excitement, I understood that
I reached the target. Waiting for the coach, we were in a deep conversation
with the friends sitting in a small and cute park. One satisfactory aspect of
ESN trips was to talk with numerous friends from various cultural backgrounds.
From this aspect, group trips led us to strengthen the familiarity towards the
cultures which helped us to internalise the characterictics of those cultures
by providing us with becoming aware of the cultural richness of those. After
the silence, which definitely occurs at some point of the conversations, we
found ourselves waiting for the coach by the side of the road. Coach was late
much and we have waited for him roughly for an hour after leaving the park.
Eventually, just as our companion arrived, we
flounced ourselves into the affectionate and warm arms of the coach by escaping
from the cutting character of the frost. He is gonna keep company with us along
the upcoming four or five hours…

So long...
